What is the High Point Furniture Market?

Held each year in April and October, the High Point Furniture Market is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world. With over 12 million square feet spread throughout 190 buildings in the area, the High Point Market draws over 85,000 persons from 110 countries to High Point twice a year for the 10-day event. The Market is not open to the general public and we don’t recommend you travel to High Point during Market times. However, Where You Need To Go Tours offers our clients access to many of these same private showrooms throughout the year.

How do I sign up for a furniture shopping trip with Where You Need To Go Tours?

Please visit our Contact Us page and enter your anticipated travel dates. Shannon will contact you via phone or e-mail to discuss the goals and objectives of your trip (i.e., furniture for one room or a house, style, specific accessory needs, design assistance needed, etc.) and will answer any questions you may have. You will also be provided a checklist of items Shannon will need before your trip and/or items you should plan to bring with you to make your furniture shopping experience the best it can be.

Why do I need Where You Need To Go Tours? Can’t I just visit High Point and shop on my own?

High Point is a friendly city that welcomes all furniture shoppers. However, the fact is that most casual shoppers—even locals—quickly become overwhelmed by the sheer vastness of what’s available throughout the High Point area. It’s all too easy to spend days roaming the city’s showrooms and leave without anything to show for all your time (and aching feet.) In addition, you’ll miss being able to shop in the 50+ private showrooms closed to the public but available to clients of Where You Need To Go Tours. Our goal is to save our clients TIME, frustration and money by directing them to the showrooms and furniture lines that match their personal taste and budget. We’re also able to generate savings for our clients by knowing where the best deals are to be had.

What are these private showrooms you mentioned? Will I have access to them?

Yes, you’ll absolutely have access to showrooms not open to the general public. Many of these showrooms cater to corporate clients and designers and carry exclusive lines, not found in most furniture stores. If you’re partial to lines such as Asian Loft, Baker, Dino Mark Anthony, Elysee’ Collection, Ferguson Copeland, French Heritage, Harden, Henkel Harris, John-Richard, Karges, Kindel, Michael Thomas, Red Egg, Somerset Bay, Swaim, Yorkshire House, as well as dozens of others, private tours of these showrooms may be arranged for you.

I know High Point is famous for its wide array of “traditional” furniture but my tastes are more transitional / contemporary / modern. Will I find a good selection of these styles as well? 


Yes - High Point has furniture, antiques, lighting, art, and specialty stores to match every taste and style. Shannon will work closely with you during the pre-planning stage of your visit to ensure you’re directed to the manufacturers and showrooms that best represent your vision for your home, at the best values possible.

In addition to shopping for household furniture, I will also be looking for outdoor-patio furniture, office furniture, lighting, floor coverings, accessories, art, fabrics, antiques, china and crystal… Can you help me shop for these items as well? 


We are happy to help you locate any home furnishing or home furnishing accessory you need. We’ve had clients approach us with requests for items as specific as a 4’ gold Buddha. (We found it!) Suffice to say that High Point offers great selections for a wide array of home products. We can help you shop for lighting (table lamps, floor lamps, sconces, chandeliers, outdoor lighting), floor coverings (Persian, oriental, contemporary rugs), accessories, art, fabrics (for curtains, draperies, accent pieces), antiques, hardwood flooring, custom plantation blinds, china / crystal, and more.

Are there a minimum number of days we must sign-up for to use Where You Need To Go Tours?

No, there is no minimum number of days. We recognize that every client is unique and will have a varied amount of time and budget to spend furniture shopping.

Are your services available 7 days a week?

Our services are available seven days a week. However, most stores are closed on Sundays and many private showrooms are only available Monday through Friday by appointment. To maximize your shopping time, we suggest selecting shopping days between Monday and Friday.

How many days should I / we plan to stay and shop in High Point? 


Based on over 20 years experience, here’s our advice:
• If you think you’ll need one day (2 rooms), plan on two days.
• If you think you’ll need two days (3 rooms), plan on 2.5-3 days.
• If you are shopping for a whole house (new construction), including furniture, lighting, rugs, outdoor-patio furniture, home office furniture, home entertainment, mattresses, accessories, art, fabrics, etc., you should plan on no less than three (3) full days of shopping in High Point.
 
Remember, there are dozens of wood finish options and hundreds of fabric options to choose from which tends to take longer than most people anticipate.

How long will it be until our order(s) are delivered?

Usual order / delivery time is 6-8 weeks, although it may vary slightly by manufacturer or for special orders.

What if I’m already working with an interior designer? Is there any conflict with my meeting with showroom designers?

We welcome any designer you’re working with to help us assist you in making your trip to High Point a successful and worthwhile venture. Your designer may travel with you or we’re happy to work with them in the planning stages of your visit. Many clients send their designers to us for our shopping tours.

Where should we stay when traveling to High Point?


Our clients are offered discounts at partner hotels such as Courtyard by Marriott, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites, and Residence Inn. While in High Point, can you recommend restaurants for lunch and evening meals? 


We’d love to! Since you’re in North Carolina we recommend you spend at least one meal eating our famous BBQ, but we can also recommend restaurants specializing in steaks, seafood, Italian, Mediterranean, sushi, fusion, Mexican, or anything you “have a hankering for” as we say around here.

What else is there to do in High Point? 

How much time do you have?  High Point offers great golf and lake recreation opportunities, camping, cultural events, museums, galleries, theatres, and year-round festivals. For simple pleasures there are apple-picking orchards, local farmers markets, and nearby state and national parks for hiking, boating, or fishing. If I don’t want to rent a car, do you offer pick up/drop off service?

Airport pickup and return for the Greensboro Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) is all part of your upscale yet affordable furniture shopping experience. Pick-up and return to either Raleigh-Durham (RDU) or Charlotte (CLT) airports is also possible for a modest additional fee.

If Shannon is unavailable during my travel dates do you have other associates to assist with my furniture shopping tour? 


Shannon has 2-3 vetted and well-trusted associates who assist him year round. Shannon personally handles all the pre-planning and scheduling of appointments for any tour. In addition, Shannon remains in regular communication with all associates during a tour and adjustments can be made to the schedule as needed.
